The Pharma Industry – Down Tobacco Road

The hypothesis was that the industry, in determining its strategies on public policy issues, was pursuing hard power at the expense of soft power. Over time this imbalance would directly lead to a loss of influence, which the industry would feel in many ways.

While there can be debate about the causality and the extent of this phenomenon, most agree that this loss of influence has now come to pass. Ten years on, we post the original presentation on the HLC website as the beginning of a series of posts looking at what this phenomenon means for current Pharma industry issues.
