Call for Applications – Junior Consultant Position

Do you long to work in an exciting and creative environment? Are you interested in European/global political and business affairs? Then you are the person we are looking for!

We are offering a paid traineeship contract with various opportunities to progress and take on responsibilities, within our developing firm. This is a dynamic role, involving hands-on experience in strategic public affairs dossiers and regular client interaction. It requires a team member who can think quickly, ensure high quality delivery, and who enjoys a strategic challenge while recognizing the importance of lunchtime dog-walking.

Specifically, the responsibilities will involve:

  • Support the development and implementation of client projects and campaigns
  • Draft communications material and policy briefs
  • Media and policy analysis
  • Participation in the development of client advice through capture and understanding of strategic brainstorms and workshops
  • Preparation, research and support on new business development
  • Administrative support

The candidate: If you have a Master’s degree and a strong interest in business and political issues, we are looking for a quick learner and enthusiastic self-starter. 1-year previous experience advantageous.

Required skills and qualities:

  • English language skills at native-speaker level
  • German native-speaker level highly advantageous
  • Strong writing skills, including experience in writing PowerPoint reports
  • Strong research abilities, especially media analysis and political processes
  • Excellent attention to detail and highly organised
  • Proven organisational skills, and ability to manage multiple tasks concurrently
  • Ability to operate in a highly collaborative environment with multiple priorities
  • A positive “can do” attitude, excellent interpersonal & persuasive skills, and a willingness to take personal initiative and responsibility
  • Advanced IT skills in MS Office, particularly Word and PowerPoint; knowledge of Adobe Illustrator and WordPress an asset
  • Right to legally work in Belgium

Type of contract: 6 or 12-month ‘Convention d’Immersion Professionnelle’ under Belgian law.

Remuneration: +/- €1100 per month

Call for Applications – Visual Advocacy Trainee

HLC is offering a paid 6-month visual advocacy traineeship in graphic design. The visual advocacy trainee will support the HLC team in the development, implementation and delivery of visual communications for a range of client projects and marketing materials, including PowerPoint templates, logos and style guides, social media content, infographics, and promotional elements.

Harwood Levitt Consulting is a consultancy that delivers strategic counsel for political risk for both Fortune 500 companies and medium-sized organisations to create competitive advantage through public policy, advocacy and communication. The trainee will work closely with client teams, working with a range of clients from the corporate, NGO and foundation sectors, learning excellent client-relationship management, graphic design for the corporate world and project management skills.

Required skills and qualities:

  • Software skills including PowerPoint, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator (infographic design, icon development, photo manipulation, color correction, layering, etc.)
  • Well-rounded design experience, demonstrated through portfolio or school and/or “real world” work
  • An understanding of fundamental design skills, production, a strong sense of color, typography, and design composition
  • An understanding of concepts to convert verbal / written messages to a visual format
  • An ability to balance a wide variety of projects and competing demands with varying production styles with demanding client expectations and deadlines
  • Eager, productive and positive attitude: a go-getter who wants to learn and contribute to the agency environment
  • Must have good interpersonal communications skills, take direction and creative critique / constructive criticism well
  • Interest in public policy, advocacy and communications

We are seeking a Senior Consultant to work within our developing firm. We are looking for an experienced team member with ambition to grow to a team leader, who can think quickly, ensure high quality delivery, and who enjoys strategic challenges and forward thinking.

You will be managing a multi-client portfolio of projects and balancing competing demands. You must have the ability and desire to grow a team and to forward-think on client projects. A track record of successful client relationship management and development is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategic counsel: Provide insightful strategic counsel to colleagues and clients in a range of sectors
  • Project implementationDeliver public affairs projects supportive of client goals
  • Content creation: Lead on co-creation of communications and advocacy collateral, including external messaging documents, with colleagues and clients
  • Creative communicationPresent your ideas and deliver projects using PowerPoint and Adobe Illustrator, maximises visual impact and clarity
  • Manage client accounts: Including budgets and development of existing client accounts

Required:

  • Critical thinking and problem solving: Proven track record of finding solutions to complex public affairs issues and ability to communicate them effectively to business, based on understanding of client needs.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience preferably with client / stakeholder relationship management
  • Knowledge of business environment: Comprehensive understanding of Corporate Affairs departments, their interaction and how they fit into company structure
  • Knowledge of an industry sector: Understanding of interconnectedness and complexity of a sector’s business model and external engagement strategies. Knowledge of health and / or chemicals sectors strong asset

We are seeking a Political Risk Analyst / Strategist to work within our developing firm at an Manager level. We are looking for an experienced team member, who can think quickly, ensure high quality delivery, and who enjoys analytical challenges and forward thinking.

You will be managing a multi-client portfolio, leading projects and teams of 2-4 people, and balancing competing demands. You must have the ability and desire to grow a team, and to forward-think on client projects. A track record of successful client relationship management and development is essential.

Responsibilities:

  • Project management: Successfully managing a portfolio of clients and multiple projects, meeting client expectations and maintaining a high-quality work product. Includes management of client budgets and client development. Comfortable with taking leadership on driving group developed content into strategy
  • Strategy development: Supporting clients in the identification and definition of political risk issues, creating convincing business cases with supporting rationales for action, and developing fully costed multi-country plans.
  • Data collection and analysis: Synthesising and drawing conclusions from qualitative data. Providing statistical analysis of quantitative data. Design research projects using in-house or acquired data
  • Public/Corporate Affairs function strategy: Focus on providing strategic support to the public/corporate affairs function within an organisation; improve business engagement between corporate functions and BUs, facilitate communication and engagement between functions on sensitive/crisis issues
  • Visual and creative communication: Presentation of content using PowerPoint and Adobe Illustrator in a way that maximises impact for client whilst minimising design time

Required:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience preferably with client / stakeholder relationship management. Experience of business, economics or management consultancy is desirable
  • Team focused: Enjoy working collaboratively in a small team environment
  • Experience and knowledge of C-suite level communication behaviour: Comprehensive understanding of corporate affairs and experience of working in cross-functional, diverse business teams, maximising efficiency and resource allocation for internal corporate functioning
  • Knowledge of any industry sector: Understand interconnectedness and complexity of a sector’s business model and external engagement strategies
  • Engagement in political systems and their impacts
  • Entrepreneurial mindset: Proven record of leadership and initiative
  • Comfortable with ambiguity: Able to find a solution / path to achieving goals without precise instruction on getting there
